EC bans Kcr from campaigning. During this election season, the Election Commission of India took a significant action by barring former Telangana Chief Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi chief K Chandrashekar Rao from campaigning for 48 hours. This action was taken due to allegedly derogatory and objectionable statements made against the Congress during a public rally in Sircilla district.

In its letter to Kcr, the ECI cited violation of the Model Code of Conduct in his statements. The ban, effective from 8 pm on May 1, comes after a complaint from G Niranjan, senior vice-president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee, regarding Kcr's remarks on April 5.

Sircilla Assembly constituency, where the rally took place, is represented by Kcr's son K T Rama Rao. The EC had requested a factual report from the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana, which was submitted on April 10.

Kcr responded to the showcause notice on April 23, stating that his criticism was directed at the Congress' policies and programs in the state, not at any individual leaders. Despite this, the EC found his statements in violation of the MCC, which prohibits false statements aimed at misleading voters. A BRS leader stated that Kcr will comply with the EC's directives.
